Meet Our Conductor
Since 2013 Cory Pederson has led the musical direction of the North Oregon Coast Symphony and our chamber orchestra.
Cory Pederson
Cory Pederson is in his ninth year as conductor with the North Oregon Coast Symphony. In addition to directing NOCS, Pederson conducts the Little Ballet Theatre Orchestra (now his 8th year) which presents the Nutcracker each December in Astoria, Oregon. In 2007 Cory and his wife, Angela Calvin-Pederson, founded the Columbia River Symphony, where Cory is the conductor and Angela plays violin.
Pederson’s instrument of expertise is the trumpet, which he has played for 28 years, and percussion for 20 years. His musical career includes working with multiple school ensembles and participation with the Vancouver Symphony and IWASH (Idaho Washington) Symphony. He performs with the North Coast Symphonic Band and the North Coast Big Band when opportunities arise.
Pederson received a BA in Education from Washington State University, and a BA in Music from Portland State University. He has a Masters in Education and Curriculum, as well as a Principal’s License from Concordia University. Mr. Pedersion is currently working on his Superintendent’s license through Oregon State University. Presently he is the interim Superintendent as well as Music Director for the Jewell School District, teaching band to high school students. His students have gained extensive knowledge and experience under his tutelage, attending State competitions in 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022.
